Emerald Pools in Zion National Park is without a doubt one of the most popular hikes in all of Zion. It's relative ease of access, and simple gradual hike makes it attractive to most people who would like a taste of Zion, without having to go canyoneering.
This is a great video that shows you just how beautiful it is, and what it offers to so many people. Sometimes if you're lucky you'll get to see canyoneerers rappelling down the canyon at upper Emeral Pools.
Zion is a simply beautiful place and it's places like Emerald Pools that make it that way.
You can find Emerald Pools up near the Angels Landing trail head. You can access it from Angels Landing or from a seperate trailhead before Angels. There are two Emerald Pools that you'll get to see. This is the first pool or as they call it Lower Emerald Pools.
The second Upper Emerald Pools is located quite close to lower, so if you're going to hike to see them make certain you see them both. The Upper is flanked by massive canyon walls that make for a truly beautiful scene. There isn't a waterfall at the Upper, but what it lacks in falling water it makes up for in natural beauty.
And if you're lucky you may see some people canyoneering down and descending down the cliff face into the Upper Pools. There's a canyon above it called Heaps Canyon that is one of the most technical canyons in Zion, with over 20 rappels and a death defying 500 ft descent into upper Emerald.
In the end taking the time to hike up to and see both Emerald Pools is a decision you won't regret, as you'll be greeted with tremendous surroundings and beauty.
