Truthfully winter is winding down here in Zion Canyon, in fact from the looks of most things it's already over and all that's left is the springtime. But if there comes another freak spring snowstorm then don't let it fret you, as there is immense beauty during winter in Zion.
For those who are familiar with the canyon and outlying areas of Zion, this location will be very familiar. For those who are not then pull out your maps and look up Kolob Terrace road. It's a road in Virgin you'll come to that takes you up to Kolob Reservoir and can eventually kick you out to Cedar City.
In truth it's one of the prettiest drives in all of southern Utah, as it gives you an incredible view down into Zion and also in the Kolob Canyon section of Zion National Park. This particular image is overlooking Zion, and is right near where you begin hiking the Subway. It's a favorite spot for people to take pictures, especially as the suns beginning to descend.
As you can see from this image it's also a wonderful place to visit in winter time. From what I understand they plow the road up to here and a little bit past, but not much. After that it's snowmobile only. But you can certainly get to this point and have the option to take some amazing photographs such as this.
So don't let winter in Zion scare you or stop you, you just have to know where to go to make the most of it and to see the canyon in an incredible light that most never do. And now you know where to go!
